  • Never A Dog Product

    Permethrin, in many dog spot-ons, is lethal to cats. If you own both, apply the dog's treatment where the cat can't groom it and keep them apart until dry.

  • Urinary Blockages

    A male cat straining in the tray is a life-threatening emergency. Wet food, water fountains and stress reduction prevent most cases.

  • Hairballs & Grooming

    A cat who stops grooming is usually in pain, not lazy. Brushing daily and a malt paste handle the rest.

  • Weight Creep

    An extra kilo on a five-kilo cat is a fifth of their body weight. Measured meals beat a bowl left out all day.

  • Kidney Disease

Most Cat Problems Start With Not Drinking Enough

Cats evolved in deserts, taking most of their water from prey. Feed a dry-only diet and many simply run at a low-grade deficit for years — which is exactly the setup for urinary crystals, blockages and early kidney strain.

You don't need to change everything. One wet meal a day, a bowl away from the food, and a fountain if they'll use it.

Do indoor cats need flea and worm treatment?

Yes. Fleas arrive on people's trousers, on the dog, and through the window. Indoor cats can go to a three-monthly wormer rather than monthly, but flea cover should stay year round.

Can I use my dog's flea treatment on the cat?

No — and this is the one thing we'll never bend on. Many dog spot-ons contain permethrin, which is lethal to cats even in small amounts. If your cat has been exposed, ring your vet immediately.

How do I give a tablet to a cat who won't take one?

Try a pill pocket or a smear of paste on the paw first. If that fails there are spot-on wormers that work through the skin — ring us and we'll point you to one that suits your cat's weight.

Is dry food bad for cats?

Not bad, but rarely enough on its own. Dry food is convenient and fine as part of the diet — pair it with at least one wet meal a day so water intake keeps up.

My cat is drinking a lot more than usual. Is that serious?

It's worth a vet visit this week. Increased thirst is the classic early sign of kidney disease, diabetes or an overactive thyroid — all three are far easier to manage when caught early.
